I figured out what is making the forum display jump up and down..
I am using opera and it will provide a toolbar when a web page has rel links like index, contents, search and so forth. It pops on and off depending if the page has these kind of links.
Various pages in the SMF seem to use them, but then there are several that do not, so traversing this site there is a a lot of jumping up/down (just the height of the toolbar) of the pages.
The toolbar is quite handy for sites that provide a consistent use of the ref links, where the toolbar is always shown throughout the site, so I'd be preferable to not disable as a work around.
It would be nice if the pages here that didn't have any such links, causing the toolbar to hide had at least a dummy rel to 'Home' or something. It'd cure the constant display/hide behaviour of the toobar.
If you want to see what I am talking about navigate the forum a little using opera.
I could turn it off completely I think but then I'd probably forget to turn it back on.

hmm. I noticed my observation isn't quite correct. It appears all pages are supporting the navigation toolbar but for some reason it's hiding upon each page change..
