Topic: Estimated release date for final REBOL 3.0 ? (Read 382 times)

Hi,
Lots of people must have already asked this question ? But I've seen no reply. And, REBOL 3.0 seems so full of promises that I humbly risk the question !
Taking in account remaining design & developments on Rebol 3.0 (VID 3.4, fixing due to Unicode, LNS, general bug fixing, testing, documentation...), people working on it (their availability), observed velocity, gigantic past experience, would it be possible to give an estimated realistic release date for BETA and then FINAL version of REBOL 3.0 ?
Thanks.

First estimate (very strange one ;-) was some 3 months from the start of R3 development to alpha version :-) Well, to be realistic, I don't think we will get to beta this year. Carl takes his cycles - 3 months for Unicode (not finished to full extent imo), now it is almost 3 months since he disappeared to work on VID 3.4.
But - there will be some point in time, when things will get faster. That will happen once source codes are uploaded into the Devbase. Let's hope we start to see some results of VID 3.4 soon, so we can extend it, and use it for DevBase instead of R2, and start full move to R3.
Watch R3 rebol.com section, there are some short news from time to time. Or - join AltME, if you are intersted in more information ...

Thanks a lot for this realistic opinion. This version will contain so many interesting things that I think it's worth waiting. Carl & Rebol Technologies have already accomplished sthing great with a small team.
I personally look forward to see the result. One of my dream would be to use it at work all the time !

One other thing: Carl/Rebol Technologies sometimes gives estimates for how long things take. Usually multiply that with something like... 10. :-)
I'm not sure we're going beta this year either, but things are progressing. There's just hundreds of things left to do and hundreds of bugs to fix in the alpha.
