Is anyone else here currently trying to learn a forgeign language? I'm learning Spanish, so I've written a program to help me practise words and sentenses. It's not quite finished but definitely usable, if someone wants to help me test it. The program reads custom datafiles with the words you want to practise and then keeps track of how good you know them. The better you know a word the less often you'll be asked to translate it.

I am interested. Is this some kind of SRS (Spaced Repetition System)?

Yes, that would be a suitable label for it. I've never used flashcards, but I read some about it yesterday and it's quite similar to my system.
Instead of stacks/boxes I keep track of how well the user knows a word (0 to 100) and I add time to the next rehearsal based on this score. I also allow much more complex templates than just two sided cards.
However, development has kinda stalled since I bought Rosetta Stone which is a great albeit expensive program.
It's quite usable right now, but you have to add your own words (mine are Spanish/Swedish:)). I could upload it to my server if you want to give it a try, or even help develop it. Basically what's left is multi user support (maybe not even needed), ftp synchronization of skill database and some options perhaps.
